Unless labeled by hand, these labels require a labeling device with a compatible feed system.

Traceable documentation is often required for the sterilization of medical equipment. "Sterile-to" labels (sterilization labels) simplify the documentation process. Once applied to the packaging (e.g., of a sterile instrument), the label can be easily peeled off and permanently affixed to paper. The upper section of the sterile label can be marked—manually or via a handheld labeler (see below)—with an abbreviation, signature, or numeric code containing key traceability information. The lower section is designated for the date. Depending on the labeler used, additional information can also be stamped on.
